RWERK: UR-CC1 King Cobra Linear VS. Louis Vuitton Tambour Mysterieuse

Urwerk recently unveiled their newest creation, the UR-CC1 King Cobra Linear. This unique luxury watch features horizontal linear retrograde hours and minutes displays, with jumping hours. The UR-CC1 King Cobra also features an unprecedented seconds display, which shows both digital and linear seconds. “The UR-CC1 is the result of more than three years of research, development, production and testing to ensure that the rotation and instant fly-back of the large hour and minute cylinders was achieved without compromising accurate timekeeping.”

The UR-CC1 luxury watch comes in either grey gold with a titanium baseplate or black gold with a titanium baseplate. In watchmaking, precious metals are generally not used as a base for black or grey cases. Instead most black and grey cases are created using steel or titanium bases. Urwerk has found a way to offer consumers the dark finishes that are so popular these days, without sacrificing the precious metal that is expected on luxury replica watches in this price range. Using black or grey gold is not a world’s first in watchmaking, just another example of Urwerk’s originality.

Louis Vuitton Tambour Mysterieuse

Louis Vuitton, master luggage maker and flagship brand of the LVMH group, unveiled their first in-house watch caliber earlier this year. LVMH press release: “This is a first in the luggage master’s history: a timepiece entirely created, developed, and assembled in the Louis Vuitton watch-making workshops in Switzerland.”

Clear sapphire discs within the case suspend the watch movement, creating a floating visual effect. Very cool. But very pricey at $250,000.

Ok, Louis Vuitton has created, manufactured and assembled a timepiece from start to finish. This is quite an achievement. But these are limited quantity timepieces, probably not even a hundred per year. When will they have the capabilities, in-house, to produce luxury watches for the all important $10,000 price range?
